Introducing: In This Thread
A monthly mini-series exploring niche topics in style through self-guided research, sewing projects, and conversations.
Welcome to the beginning of a new project I’m calling In This Thread—a monthly deep dive into a niche topic in fashion and style, shared in weekly posts.
Each month, I’ll pick a fashion niche and devote the month to researching as much as I can about it—its history, evolution, cultural impact, and role in the world of style. I’ll share weekly updates on what I’ve learned, along with my reading list and relevant links, and a behind-the-scenes look at a related sewing project (or two…or three).

Topics could be anything: contemporary clothing, historical dress, a specific designer, or a whole class of garments (men’s neckwear from the last 500 years, for example).
I’ll start each month with a post divulging everything I think I know about the topic, along with any opinions or assumptions I have, before I do any research. That is to say, my first post might be full of trivia that is perfectly wrong. Keep that in mind as you read; stick with me through the month, and let’s see how much we uncover.
I’ll also share my sewing project goals—pieces I’d like to create that relate to the month’s theme. Some things won’t go as planned, I’m sure (there are only so many hours in a day), but I hope to give you a glimpse into my studio and invite you into my creative world.

Photos and process notes will be shared in public Notes for everyone to enjoy, and the first post of each new topic will always be free. I hope you’ll subscribe and join the deeper conversation as I go for an imaginary PhD in fashion anthropology! Thank you for being part of this exploration—I’m glad you’re here!
Interested in a specific topic? Let me know in the comments and I’ll work it into my schedule!
